The Fijiana XV has qualified for the Rugby World Cup today after defeating the Manusina XV at Churchill Park, Lautoka this afternoon.

The match which determined the direct qualification to RWC 2021 in New Zealand, saw the hosts prove their favourites tag to score 41 points to Samoa’s 13.

Fijiana XV Captain Sereima Leweniqila said that the game was tough as they had expected Samoa to have given them that level of competition.

“It was a tough game and we know that they were going to come out hard and tough,” Leweniqila said.

With Fiji qualifying for the first time to a Women’s Rugby World Cup, Leweniqila said she was very grateful and humbled.

“The feeling is still sinking in as its history in in the making,” she said.

“I just want to thank the girls and hats off to them for all the work,” Leweniqila added.

Manusina XV Captain Nina Foaese said that it was a disappointing loss for the team that had high expectations on their own performance.

“It was a hard match playing against Fiji today and they came out wanting it more,” Foaese said.

In the first game of Round 4, the ANZ Papua New Guinea Palais lost to a Fijiana Development side by 22 points to 40.

Tonga, Samoa and Papua New Guinea will have another round of qualifiers earlier next year to determine the repechage spot for the Rugby World Cup.
