Oceania Sevens Championship

Oceania Rugby Sevens Championship

The Oceania Rugby Sevens Championship is the premier rugby event on the Oceania calendar, being the only competition open to all the 17 Member Unions and Associate Members from across the region.

This years Oceania Rugby Sevens Championship is the 14th edition of the event and will be held in Honiara.

This is the first time that the region’s premiere rugby tournament will be held outside of Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, and Samoa, and it follows the highly successful 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara.

The Solomon Islands Rugby Union, with the support of the national government, will host the prestigious tournament, signalling increased recognition of the country's growing stature in the regional sporting community.

The 2024 competition is significant due to select teams vying for one spot in the men’s and World Rugby HSBC Sevens Challenger Series.

The two highest-ranked non-HSBC SVNS qualified men’s teams and the highest-ranked non-HSBC SVNS qualified women’s team will secure spots in the World Rugby Challenger Series.

Teams already qualified for the HSBC SVNS World Series—such as Fiji and Australia in the men’s competition and Fiji in the women’s competition—are not eligible for Challenger Series qualification, leaving the race wide open for other teams to rise to the occasion.

The tournament showcases a mix of seasoned rugby powerhouses and emerging talent, with a significant milestone as Niue and Kiribati make their debut in the women’s division, marking a proud moment for Pacific rugby.
