Fijiana XV have made a powerful start to the Oceania Women’s Championship, securing an emphatic 85–5 victory over Tonga’s Lofa XV in the opening match at Churchill Park, Lautoka.

In front of an enthusiastic home crowd, Fiji showcased their attacking strength and structure, running in 13 tries and 10 conversions in a commanding performance to kick off their campaign.

From the outset, Fijiana XV controlled possession and territory, with their forward pack laying a solid platform and the backline capitalising on space out wide. The result reflected a well-rounded team effort, with multiple players contributing across the scoreboard.

Captain’s Reflections

Lofa XV captain Pritney Tuiaki acknowledged the physical nature of the match and the lessons taken from the performance:

“I think it was a tough game but we were able to keep going and we were able to finish. I think we still need things to fix and there have been lessons learned.”

Fijiana XV captain Alfreda Fisher praised her team’s execution and the contribution of new players:

“The debutants played really well and they put out a good game. We played to our Fijiana structure with our work-ons from the Wallaroos and I thank the girls. We're looking to improve on a few key things—our line defence and scrums—for the next round.”

The result sets a strong tone for Fiji as they continue their campaign, while Tonga will take valuable experience and learnings into their next outing.
