The Women of the Oceania Seven’s Challenge put on an amazing display of talent which has us itching for Sunday’s finals.

Cook Islands The Cook Islands kicked off the competition with a glorious win over the Solomon Islands followed by an even more dominant performance over Vanuatu giving them back-to-back wins. Unfortunately, the Cook Islands fell to Papua New Guinea, but they’ll enter day two with a lot of confidence despite the loss.

Samoa Samoa had a mixed day out but will still enter day two knowing they have enough talent in their squad to win it all. After an initial fifty-nine-point victory over Vanuatu, they were brought back to Earth by Papua New Guinea, who set the bar for the Women’s competition throughout the entire day. Samoa finished the day with a comprehensive victory over rivals Tonga, which no doubt made the Samoan fans forget all about their loss earlier in the day.

Papua New Guinea The Palais entered the Championships with high expectations, and will enter day two with even higher expectations following three incredibly dominant victories over some very talented opponents. Over three games, Papua New Guinea conceded just one try, and this is after facing three of the best teams in the entire tournament. Saying that the Palais are the team to beat is a major understatement.

Solomon Islands The Solomon Islands had a mixed day out in day one. Failing to score against either the Cook Islands first up or Tonga in game two, they were able to grab a victory against struggling Vanuatu to build some much-needed momentum as they prepare to face Samoa and Papua New Guinea in day two.

Tonga The best way to describe Tonga’s day one performance? Frustrating. The Tongans had an uphill battle from the start of the day as they came up against Papua New Guinea in their first match. Despite the Tongans playing some beautiful expansive rugby, they were never able to capitalise on chances, and suffered a heavy loss as a result. They were able to bounce back against the Solomon Islands but lost a very winnable match against their archrivals Samoa. Tonga will look to put yesterday behind them as they enter day two.

Vanuatu The Vanuatuan Women had a tough day out. A fifty-nine-point loss against the Samoans was sadly indicative of what the rest of the day had in store for them. Three brutal losses in three games means that Vanuatu can only go up from here as they entre day two.
