Fiji TV to Broadcast Oceania 7s

Oceania Rugby has announced that Fiji Television Limited will broadcast the 2019 Oceania Rugby Sevens Championships delayed, on it’s free to air channel: Fiji One.

The 2019 Oceania Rugby Sevens Championships features twelve women’s teams – a record number for the women’s section and fifteen men’s teams.

This year’s edition also features the Oceania Rugby Deaf 7s Competition which will see Fiji, Samoa and Papua New Guinea compete for the main prize.

Olympic gold medalist-teams Fiji Men’s and Australia Women’s were crowned the Men’s and Women’s series champions in the 2018 Oceania Rugby Sevens Championships.

Oceania Rugby Competitions Manager Wayne Schuster said that Oceania Rugby is delighted to partner with Fiji Television Limited in light of it’s longstanding relationship for the Oceania events in Fiji including the Sevens and the Women’s Championships.

“Since the inception of the Oceania Sevens here in Suva, through the partnership with the Fiji Government, it’s been great to work with the team here at Fiji Television.

“We are excited about this year’s tournament being the biggest competition to date with 27 teams combined representing 16 countries from Oceania and internationally, which is the biggest feat in any tournament,” Schuster said.

“This tournament will be even more competitive considering that the Olympic Qualifier spots are at stake for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics,” Schuster said.

Fiji TV’s Chief Executive Officer Karen Lobendahn said that Fiji television is excited about this year’s tournament as there should be great competition across the three days of the draw.

“It’s always a privilege to be able to give back to sport in totality and we are so grateful to Oceania Rugby for continuing this long relationship that we’ve had,” Lobendahn said.

“As broadcasters we have committed in totality to ensure that we give as much exposure to the sport via broadcast and we’re not only going to be able to showcase here in Fiji, but we also have the regional partners who we will be providing the feed to as well,” she added.

The Oceania Rugby Sevens Championships kicks off tomorrow the 7th of November ands ends on the 9th.
