Executive Committee Appointment
Objective

In accordance with Oceania Rugby Governance Principles (ORGP), Constitution and Executive Committee (EXCO) rotation policy, the position of Independent Director, is now open for nominations.

The Independent Director is an appointed position on the Oceania Rugby EXCO. The key objective of the role is to enhance the decision-making capabilities of the EXCO by diversifying the skills sets and experience contained within the EXCO.

Organisational overview

Founded in 2000, Oceania Rugby is one of six regional associations of World Rugby, responsible for representing the interests of its 16 Members. Oceania Rugby works closely with its Member Unions to promote the growth and performance of rugby throughout the Oceania region. Central to this is a series of tournaments, development programmes and institutional strengthening initiatives led and coordinated by Oceania Rugby.

Role of the EXCO

The EXCO has all the powers necessary for the governing, directing and supervising the direction, management and business affairs of Oceania Rugby.

Frequency of Meetings
  • The EXCO meets a minimum of five (5) times a year, usually via teleconference, with at least one face to face meeting (if possible).
  • Attendance at the Oceania Rugby Annual General Meeting is also required.
  • Presence at additional World Rugby and/or Oceania Rugby conferences and/or events may also be required from time to time.
Skills, Attributes and Experience

Candidates must:

  • Be able to communicate effectively;
  • Be able to present a highly professional image when representing Oceania Rugby;
  • Be able to establish positive working relationships with the executive staff of Oceania Rugby and World Rugby;
  • Have previous involvement in Rugby Union and a sound understanding of international sport and the challenges faced;
  • Exhibit a professional record of achievement which demonstrates accountability and transparency;
  • Demonstrate a history of responsible decision making at a board and/or senior management level;
  • Show a proven ability to effectively identify risks and to assist in minimising these risks.
  • Be able to show through their application that they satisfy the constitutional definition of Independent being:
    • a person who is not, and has not been at any time in the previous 12 months:
    • employed by; or
    • a member of the board of;
    • an office holder of, any of the below:
      • a Member Union or any of its subsidiaries; or
      • an Associate Member or any of its subsidiaries.
    • and will continue to remain independent throughout the term of appointment.
Additional Information
  • The appointment is for a four (4) year term, commencing in Quarter 3 2021.
  • This appointment is an unpaid role however Oceania Rugby will cover agreed expenses relating to any travel and accommodation required by the position.
